2008 STANZA membership

20 Junio, 2007 · Dejar un comentario

Dear STANZA member,

This last year, Stanza has been active on the internet through its website.
This new forum for Spanish teachers is ready to receive news, ideas and
opinions from all teachers.

STANZA offers subsidies for those teachers who have been a member of the
association for at least 2 years.

In order to stimulate the oral skills of our students:

Stanza has organized, for the fourth consecutive year, the Spanish Debate
for Years 11, 12 and 13 students. The winners receive a cup and all
participants are in the draw for interesting prizes (dictionaries, CDs, DVDs
etc)
In the year 2007 the Stanza Speech Competition for Years 11, 12 and 13
returned, also with prizes for the winners of each level.

Stanza represents all teachers and is the means by which we can have a voice
and vote at a national level, as in, for example, the case of the
Scholarship level dispute regarding the participation of native Spanish
speakers, in NZALT, at Langsem and at national conferences.

Fees for the 2008 year are $10.00 and you may pay by cheque or by electronic
transfer to the Association account.

Spanish Debating competition 2008

10 Junio, 2007 · Dejar un comentario

On Friday the 6th of June, the 2008 Spanish Debating Competition took place at King’s College, Auckland. There were 14 teams in the competition from 6 different schools:

Auckland Grammar
King’s College
Macleans College
Pinehurst College
Fairfield College
Senior College

The defending champions were Auckland Grammar.

The initial round consisted of 7 debates, from which the winners progressed to the quarterfinals, with 4 teams moving through to the semi-finals. In the later gruelling encounters King’s One beat King’s Two, whilst Senior College went down to King’s Three.

During the day students had the opportunity to get to know each other during morning tea, lunch and during the break prior to the final during which time they took part in a Trivial Pursuit competition. A Teacher’s team participated in this competition and took out the top spot showing students that their intelligence did not rely solely on the possession of a teacher’s book.

In the grand final King’s 1 and 3, faced off and in a closely fought debate King’s 1, came out as the overall winners.

Our thanks must go to our sponsors who ensured that all competitors received a prize and the top teams walked away with some exciting merchandise.
